View Detail Line Item Charges
The Detail Line Item Charges page displays charges for either the entire account (if the record type is “Summary”) or a specific claim (if the record type is “Claim”). It shows charge codes, descriptions, HCPCS / CPT codes (if any) and charge amounts.
Use this procedure to view detail line item charges.

- Access the Detail Line Item Charges page.
If you know the account number:
- Select Go To > Account Research > By Account Number. The Account Research by Account Number page opens.
- Type the account number and click Display Account. The Patient Account Audit page opens.
- Click CHGS in the View column. The Detail Line Item Charges page opens.
If you do not know the account number:
- Select Go To > Account Research > from Worklist. The Account Research from Worklist page opens.
- From the Task list, select Create Worklist.
- Specify other selection criteria and click Display Accounts. The Account Worklist page opens. For more information about search criteria, refer to Specify Account Worklist Criteria.
Note: PEM claims are not included in worklist results.
- Click the account number you want to review in the Account Number column. The Patient Account Audit page opens.
- Click CHGS in the View column. The Detail Line Item Charges page opens.
- Review the list of charges.
- For modeling accounts with charge codes that changed using an imported CDM, the modified charge codes are indicated by an asterisk (*), and the changes to each code are detailed in the Adjusted Charge Details table that shows the old codes and charges and the new codes and charges.
- If the listed charges include combined mother/baby charges, the babies’ charges are highlighted in gray. You can also hover you mouse over these charges to view the baby’s account number.
- To change the charges that are included in the list of charges:
- Select one of the following options from the Include Charges list.
- Select Greater Than to only show charges greater than a specified dollar amount. Type the dollar amount in the dollar amount field.
- Select All to show all charges, regardless of dollar amount.
Select one of the following options from the For list:
Select Service Dates Only to only show charges for the selected claim.
Select All Service Dates to show charges for the recurring series of visits.
Note: When accessing through the Supplemental Billing History by Account page, this option does not display dates of service outside of the range, as with pre-admission testing, etc.
Select Service Date Range to show charges for claims within a selected date range. Selecting this option displays From and To fields where you can type the from and to dates for your date range or select them from a calendar.
Note: When accessing through the Supplemental Billing History by Account page, use this option when charges are incurred outside of the Date of Service (DOS).
- Type a specific charge code in the Charge Code field to view information for one charge code only.
- Select one of the following options from the Summarize By list.
- Select Date to create a summary line for each date in the list of charges.
- Select Revenue Code to create a summary line for each revenue code in the list of charges.
- Select one of the following options from the Mother/Baby Charges list.
- Select Show Mother and Baby Charges to show both the mother’s charges and the baby’s charges. The baby’s charges are highlighted in gray.
- Select Show Mother Charges Only to hide the baby’s charges and show only the mother’s charges.
- Select Show Baby Charges Only to hide the mother’s charges and show only the baby’s charges.
Note: This option only displays if your facility combines charges for mother and baby accounts and this account includes combined charges.
- Click Refresh View. The list of charges updates to reflect your selections.
Note: If your selections prevent charges from displaying, a note appears above the list of charges to indicate that there are undisplayed charges for the account.
- Select one of the following options from the Include Charges list.
- To change how your results are sorted, select the name of the column you would like to sort by from the Sort By list and click Refresh View.
- To export detail line item charges information:
- Select either Microsoft Excel or Text File from the Export To list.
- Select Microsoft Excel to open Excel. You can then work with the data in Excel; for example, to move or delete columns, re-sort or re-format the data.
- Select Text File to save the data as plain text (with no formatting). Typically, you select this option if Excel is unavailable on your computer or you have Excel version’97 or older.
- Click Export.
- Select either Microsoft Excel or Text File from the Export To list.
- To view additional details regarding the information in the summary sections:
- Click a Bill Type link. The Billing Type Definition page opens. For more information, refer to Billing Type Definition.
- Click the Total Expected Payment link, if available. The Expected Payment Detail page opens. For more information, refer to View the Expected Payment Detail.
- Click the Patient Liability link. The Patient Liability Override page opens. For more information, refer to Override Patient Liability.
- Click the Write-Off Discount link, if available. The Account Write-Down Detail page opens. For more information, refer to View the Account Write-Down Detail. This link might not pertain to your facility.
- Click the Late Charge Status link, if available. The Late Charge Alternate Calculation Override page opens. For more information, refer to Override the Late Charge Status.
- Click A/R in the Master Account Summary section to access the Payments and Adjustments page for this account at the master account level. For more information, refer to View Payments and Adjustments.
- To flag an account, click Flag Account. The Assign/Update Collection Information page opens. For more information refer to Assign / Update Collection Information.
- To research a different account, type the account number in the Account Number field at the bottom of the page and click Display Account.
