Review the Exception Worklist
The Exception Worklist page allows you to view the status of selected accounts or claims. It shows your selection criteria and a summary of message codes (listed either by payor or message code), according to the selection criteria.
Use this procedure to review the Exception Worklist.

- Access the Exception Worklist page.
- Select Go To > Processing > Exception Worklist. The Exception Worklist page opens.
- Specify selection criteria and click Display Messages. The Exception Worklist Summary page opens.
- Click a number in the Accounts or Claims column. The Exception Worklist page opens.
Note: The Exception Worklist can include HCFA files, UB files, or both. However, it is limited only to these two types of files.
- Review the Exception Worklist.
- To display the Patient Account Audit page, click a link in the Account No. column.
Note: The number of claims or accounts associated with the account number display in parentheses. For example, if there are two claims with the same account number, the account number displays as “012345678 (2).”
- To display an explanation of the message code, click an Excluded MSG link or a link in the MSG Code column.
- To display the Payor Mapping page, click a link in the Payor Code field in the header or a link in the Payor Code column. The Payor Mapping page lets you drill down to the Contract Profile to research the cause of the message. For more information, refer to View Claim Volume by Payor Code.
- To display the Billing Type Definition page, click a link in the Bill Type column. For more information, refer to Billing Type Definition.
- To display the Patient Account Audit page, click a link in the Account No. column.
- To export the information to Microsoft Excel® or a text file:
- Select either Microsoft Excel or Text File from the Export To list.
- Select Microsoft Excel to open Excel. You can then work with the data in Excel; for example, to move or delete columns, re-sort or re-format the data.
- Select Text File to save the data as plain text (with no formatting). Typically, you select this option if Excel is unavailable on your computer or you have Excel version’97 or older.
- Select the Include Header check box to include a header row in your exported file.
- Select Exclude Resolved Accounts to exclude the processed accounts when exporting the Exception Worklist results.
- Click Export.
- Select either Microsoft Excel or Text File from the Export To list.
- To flag an account, select one or more check boxes in the Flag column and click Flag Accounts. The Flag Account page opens. For more information, refer to Flag Account(s) in the Exception Worklist.
Note: To remove a flag from an account, select one or more check boxes for flagged items and click Remove Flag. The flags are removed automatically, without the display opening.

The following table describes each of the fields on the Exception Worklist page.

Account No. | Patient account number (for UB claims) or insured ID (for CMS-1500 claims) |
Admit Date | Date of admission for the account |
Bill Type | Bill type |
Billed Charges | The total charges incurred for the claim or set of claims that have been repriced |
Excluded MSG | Links to message codes that are excluded from the report |
Export To | Type of file to which data should be exported |
Files Processed | A batch name reflecting the date claims were processed. For example, MM/DD/YYYY, HH:MM:SS (4 files: LH20525A - LH20528A). This batch name is composed of the date when the batch was imported (in month, day and year format); second, the time of the import to the system (the hour, minute and second); and finally, the file type and the submission date (in year, month and day format) |

MSG Code | The message code. The code is a link that displays the full description of that code Note: If you selected the Account Status option when creating your worklist, the summary or account level message code information displays.
