Add a Scenario to a Model Document
Depending on how you want to set it up, your model document can have one or multiple scenarios. You must add at least one scenario to a model document in order to execute it.
Note: The model document must be currently checked out to you.

- Access the Model Document Edit page.
- Select Go To > Contract Modeling > Model Document Management. The Model Document Management page opens.
- Click a link in the Model Document Name column. The Model Document Edit page opens.
Note: The Model Document must be checked out to you in order to edit.
- Click Add in the Scenario Actions section. A New Scenario section appears.
- Type a name for the scenario in the Scenario Name field.
Note: The scenario name is typically the name of the contract/proposal being modeled.
- If there are no patient lists associated with this model document, you can do one of the following:
- Click Define Patient List to create a new patient list. For more information, refer to Define a New Patient List.
- Click Select Patient List(s) to select an existing patient list. For more information, refer to Select an Existing Patient List.
- Select the name of the contract you want to use from the Contract drop-down list.
- Select the version of the contract profile you want to use from the Profile drop-down list.
- For contracts with multiple profiles with different effective and/or activation dates, this field lists the profile’s active status and effective, termination, and activation dates.
- To see the details of a particular contract profile, click Profile Management. The Contract Profile Management page opens. For more information, refer to Manage Contract Profiles.
- Select the types of tables the scenario can access from the Service Type Tables drop-down list:
- Predefined Tables Only – Only table(s) currently associated with the selected profile in the scenario.
- Custom Tables Only – Only table(s) created in your facility that you select (even if they are not associated with the specified profile in the scenario).
- Predefined and Custom Tables – Tables currently associated with the profile and tables you select. If the system finds duplicate service type names, the claim qualifies for the definition in the custom table.
- Type or use the calendar to select the date of service for all claims associated with the scenario in the Anchor Date field.
- The anchor date adjusts the first date of service for all claims in the scenario in order to reprice against a given table, based on the table’s effective date.
- An anchor date is typically used for future-dated fee schedules.
- Changing the anchor date does not change any actual claim data, for example, the length of stay on the claim remains the same when you use an anchor date.
- For more information about anchor dating, refer to Tips for Using Anchor Dates and DRG Overrides.
- Use the Adj. Charge Percent options to adjust the overall billed charges for this scenario.
- Select All Accounts and enter the percentage amount the billed charges for all claims in this scenario are temporarily increased or decreased.
- Select All Accounts Based on Patient Type and enter the percentage amount the billed charges for each patient type in this scenario are temporarily increased or decreased.
- Enter a whole number unless you want to view a fraction of a percentage. For example, enter 50 to increase by 50%. Enter -5 to decrease by 5%.
- The percentage you enter in this field is the percentage the billed charges for all claims in the scenario are temporarily increased or decreased to adjust for prior rate changes or forecast the impact of future rate changes.
Note: This is an optional field.
- Select the radio button for the TAC section you want represented in the graph for the model document.
- To group your claims by a specific version of the DRG grouper, select the DRG Version Override check box.
- Once you select this check box, you can select the grouper version you want to use.
- Once you select the group version, you can also select how ungroupable ICD codes are handled.
- To use an imported CDM other than your production CDM, select the CDM Table Override check box.
Note: Once you select this check box, you can select the CDM you want to use. For more information about CDM tables, refer to Manage Lookup Tables .
- Click Save.
- Optionally, click Cancel to abandon any entries or changes you made.

The following table describes the scenario fields on the Model Document Edit page.
Field | Description |
Adjust Charge Pct | Percentage by which the billed charges for all claims in the scenario are temporarily increased or decreased in order to adjust for prior rate changes or forecast the impact of future rate changes. Note: Use whole numbers unless you want to view a fraction of a percentage. For example, type 50 to increase by 50%. Type -5 to decrease by 5%. |
Anchor Date | Adjusts the first date of service for all claims in the scenario in order to reprice against a given table, based on the table’s effective date; typically used for future-dated fee schedules. Changing the anchor date does not change any actual claim data, for example, the length of stay on the claim remains the same when you use an anchor date. |
CDM Table Override | Indicates the CDM table used for this scenario. In Edit mode, this field appears as a list that allows you to select the CDM table. In View mode, you can click View to review the selected CDM table. |
Contract | Name of the contract profile being modeled. |
DRG Version Override | Allows you to select a specific, typically newer, DRG grouper used to group the claims. For example, to modify 2005 data using the 2006 grouper.
|
For Reporting, use as Baseline | Indicates the scenario to use as a baseline for reporting comparisons. Only one scenario can be selected as the baseline in a model. If no scenario is selected, the first scenario in the model defaults as the baseline. |
For Reporting, use TAC Section | Indicates which TAC section is reflected in the modeling reports. |
Patient List(s) | Applies the selected patient list to the individual scenario. |
Profile | Version of the profile to be modeled. For contracts with multiple profiles with different effective and/or activation dates, this field lists the profile’s active status and effective, termination, and activation dates. |
Scenario Name | Name of the model scenario; typically the name of the contract/proposal being modeled. |
Service Type Tables | Specifies which types of tables the scenario can access:
|
Ungroupable ICD Codes in DRG Override | Options for handling ungroupable ICD codes; this field is only available if you have selected a DRG override |
