Service Type Definition

A service type definition performs three main functions:

  • Defines services that are in the contract
  • Determines the order in which services are reimbursed
  • Determines how services reduce resources

Contract Manager has both system-defined service types and the ability to create custom service types. Whether system-defined or user-defined, a service type definition is made up of several components. Each component contributes to the service type definition functions.

Not all contracts define service types the same way. There are three types of service type definition tables to consider.

The following information describes each table type.

Table Type

Description

Universal

Includes the most common service types and is automatically associated with all profiles. It is created and maintained by FinThrive only

Facility Level

Includes service types that are common for the facility and is available for association with all profiles created in the facility. It is created and maintained by FinThrive only

For multi-level facilities, FinThrive may also create a regional table (CBO/RBO)

Contract Level

Includes service types that are unique to a specific contract. Once created, you must associate this table with the profile

When analyzing a contract, you must decide if any facility specific or contract specific service type definition tables are necessary.

There are two ways to build a service type definition table:

  • Add new service types – You may manually add each service type by typing the name, rank and appropriate condition expression.
  • Import existing service types – You may import the details of an existing service type from another table. Before you import, you must verify that the service type name matches the criteria needed in the new table. Once imported, the service type attributes (except the name) may be modified.

Note: If you name a new service type the same as a service type in the Universal table, the new service type replaces the Universal definition for all contract profiles that are linked to the table.
