E&M Guidelines

The E&M Guidelines detail page gives you CPT® Evaluation & Management coding guidelines to assist you with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance reimbursement.

Steps

  1. Perform a CPT code search.
  2. Click the E&M Guidelines icon . The E&M detail page opens in the same tab opens by default to the 1995 guidelines as these are generally more widely adopted.
  3. Either
    • Click 1997 to view the 1997 guidelines.
    • Click Current to view the chapter and section coding guidelines.
  4. Click Submit. The selected guidelines display.
  5. (Optional) Click to return to the CPT Detail page.

    Hover your mouse over the video to show the playback bar. Click the Expand icon to view the video at full screen.

Icon Bar

Multiple Icons

At the top of each detail page is an icon bar that provides access to additional billing and coding information for the selected code. Each icon corresponds to a code type or code-related detail page. For example, is the icon for CPT/HCPCS modifiers. The icons are relevant to selected code, therefore you may only see a few on some pages, while on others you may see more. If an icon is disabled, then it doesn't apply to the selected code.

Set Default

Set any code detail page as the default page.

Print

Click to convert the page information into PDF format and save or print.

Education Courses give users who have purchased an Education Bundle license access to related courses via the Knowledge Source interface.

An additional license is required for access and not all Education courses are available in Knowledge Source.

Steps

  1. Click Education Courses. The available menu(s) display.

  2. Hover over the menu(s). The available courses display.

  3. Select a course. The system navigates you to the FinThrive Education interface.

    Note: If you are not logged in to FinThrive Education, you are prompted to login first. If you are already logged in, you are navigated directly to the course page.

  4. To launch the course, click the course name next to in the Lesson section. The course lesson page opens.

  5. Click Enter. The course opens in a new window.
